He gave up all his power to his wife&#8217;s Lorraine uncles, Fran\u00e7ois, Duke of Guise and Charles, Duke of Lorraine. This provoked opposition from the Protestant leaders Antoine de Bourbon, the Prince de Cond\u00e9 and the Colignys and led to the Conspiracy of Amboise in which they planned to kidnap the king.
