PE-4 James Millner Sheaf of Wheat token 1840 PEI Canada Breton 916

PE-4, Breton 916

The James Millner Sheaf of Wheat token was the first halfpenny struck and issued in Prince Edward Island, Charlottetown. In 1840, Millner, with permission from the Colonial government, imported dies and presses from the United States.

Most specimens known are crudely struck on inferior planchets. This token was issued in poor condition which explains why so few were issued and why his production equipment was eventually sold for scrap.
